The video for Buono’s 12th single Natsu Dakara (Because It’s Summer) was released on their YouTube channel recently. It’s a little different from their previous videos as it seems to focus a lot more on a single member (Airi) instead of the equal opportunity efforts that have been the norm.
Whether Airi’s upcoming photo book is part of the reason she is featured more is subjective. But that could be a valid reason for her increased screen time. Gotta pimp the goods right?
Anyway, the song itself is something unexpected. It has a bit of a Spice Girls feel to it and is rather relaxed for a summer release. But that’s all well and good. After all, you can’t always have these girls running around like chickens with their heads cut off mugging for the camera.
Nor can you have them doing their best at repairing cars & possibly murdering someone with shoddy mechanic skills. Nope what you get here is sun dresses and casual wear that came straight out of some sort of Japanese girls fashion magazine.
As a whole the video itself can be pretty boring. It’s basically a giant collection of close up shots (mostly of Airi) and 0 dance portions. If you have ADD and don’t like watching the girls just stand there & sing into the camera there’s not much to grab on to.
With all that said, the video is still fitting for the tone of the song and is a refreshing change from the typical hyper active material we usually get from them as singles.
The closing shot above I believe was a nice touch. Kind of a nod to a scene from their Kiss Kiss Kiss video.
Overall this isn’t bad but it isn’t great either. I guess it depends on what your tolerance is for the girls doing absolutely nothing but waving off into the distance, playing with fish or just standing there looking pretty.
