There are a plethora of girl groups out in the K-Pop world and my absolute favorite of them all is 2NE1. I dig their sound and their look so I was extremely happy when I found out the vocal track of Kiss was available on the single.
I’m primarily known for remixing a lot of J-Pop, R&B and House and I haven’t done any K-Pop songs until now. I figure why not start with this one? The original is Pop/R&B club track. For my mix I kept the same tempo but went funkier and added a deeper bass line along with some House influenced synths.

My 2nd Berryz Koubou remix is of a song from their 21st single release Watashi no Mirai no Danna-sama/Ryuusei Boy. The original version of Ryuusei Boy is an up tempo dance track with a strong disco influence. For my mix I decided to keep a little bit of that Disco touch while incorporating a more aggressive sounding rhythm section.
I kept this fairly simple and refrained from attempting any crazy type of keyboard/guitar solos during the break section. Opting instead to let the beat break down until the vocals of the final chorus kicked in.

Ayumi Hamasaki remix #2 is another song from her A Song For XX album. For those who haven’t heard the original you can listen to it here. As I have done with Signal I took this song into House territory adding a bit of a funkier flavor to track as a whole. I also had the MIDI sequences for this song but they really didn’t gel with what I was trying to accomplish with this mix, so I tossed them all & went with an original composition instead.
This was supposed to be an entry into the annual remix contest at the Ayumi Hamasaki Sekai forum but I had only had the basic structure of the track completed when the deadline hit. Instead of submitting crap (like the last time I entered the contest) I decided it would be better that I withdraw & focus on working on the mix until I found it to be acceptable for listening.

Morning Musume’s 41st single was something of a challenge. First off the original is really quite a whacked out song production wise. It sounds a lot like an Eastern European folk song mixed with ultra fast Euro dance influenced J-Pop. Once you get past that it’s actually a pretty good song.
For my remix I did what I always do, and that’s lay down some beat see what develops. The result being a track that borrows a little bit from Electro, Euro-Haus and Trance & mashes everything into one cohesive mix.
That sounds strange but it works quite well when everything is in moderation. Below is the completed song, any comments appreciated.

This is a track from Estelle’s Shine album (which is a damn fine album by the way) & features Kanye West. For my mix I moved away from the R&B feel of the original and went with what I’m best at, House music.
This has a a deep bass line combined with some funky percussion that I believe compliments the vocals quite nicely.
It’s not as dark as some of my previous productions & is probably similar in sound to the later Morning Musume remixes I’ve done before this. Anyway, any constructive comments welcomed, enjoy!

N.A.S.A. is an indie Hip-Hop duo out of L.A. & Gifted is a song from their debut album Spirit of Apollo. It features Kanye West, Santigold and Lykke Li. The original track is an up tempo party song that’s a blend of Electro and Hip-Hop. I went for a chilled, down tempo feel for my mix & kept things simple.

Another H!P remix and this time a return to Morning Musume and their 40th single Nanchatte Renai. I never thought I would get a clean vocal of this song but thanks to a fellow H!Pster (SayahChan) I was able to obtain one. It was a fairly clean vocal rip with only a few artifacts from the original backing track that were audible. Which is better than what I normally get so it was more than enough to work with.
I had a very vague idea about what I was going to do with this song. As always I started off with a simple 4/4 beat & worked my way up from there. Eventually it evolved into a House remix. I kept this mix simple & focused more on trying to retain the feel from the original song rather than trying fancy effects & stuff.

Another remix done, this time for the Crystal Method’s Come Back Clean (feat. Emily Haines from Metric) from their Divided By Night album. The original has a deep and dark kind of vibe that goes from electronica to breaks & back.
For my mix I went with a funky 4/4 House kind of feel. I didn’t use any of the breakout tracks except for the vocal but I did try to retain some of the flavor of the original by using synth patches that matched the mood of the vocal.

My 4th H!P remix is surprisingly not a Morning Musume song. Instead, I decided to take a shot at another one of the big 3, Berryz Koubou and their song Dakishimete Dakishimete.
The original version of this song is a pop club kind of track and for my mix I went in the opposite direction.
For this remix I built upon a simple 4/4 beat and used darker sounding synths for the lead and rhythm sections to get away from the poppiness of the original track and bring it into more clubby territory.

My 2nd re-working of an H!P song comes in the form of another Morning Musume song. The original track is a pop song with a bit of a melancholy vibe to it. For my remix I went with a mix show style edit, using a more club friendly type of backing track while maintaining the vibe of the original.
