Ghetto Dreams is the first single of Common’s next album The Dream, The Believer. Not much to say other than if the rest of the songs from the upcoming album are around this quality of work, Common’s next album is gonna be one to look out for. The beat, while rather simplistic, it’s a throwback of sorts. A reminder of older hip-hop; some drums and a bit of other instrumentation make the song easy to nod your head to.
Lyrically, both Common and Nas keep it simple and regulate the topic to the females. Nothing really stellar in terms of literary devices but this beat doesn’t really ask for that. It’s one of those beats that requires just pure rhyming. Nothing groundbreaking or socially aware, just two great rappers doing what they do best, rhyme.
