Review

Dream is an all girl group signed to Avex and are probably most familiar for their contribution to the Inu Yasha anime providing the show with its first ending theme, My Will and for their song Get Over which is the opening theme for Hikaru no Go. Hands Up! is the groups first album after re-debuting under the Dream name (They were called DRM from 2002 – 2008) and 5th overall.

I’ll be honest here, I haven’t been a fan of DRM/Dream for very long. My discovery of them came probably a few years too late but better late than never right? I wasn’t expecting much out of this album but I was surprised after taking in the entire thing.

A lot of the songs here are up tempo dance tracks and they kind of sound more like recent K-Pop than the typical J-Pop material. Take that as good or bad, I guess it depends on your point of view. Personally, I think it’s great. There’s nothing wrong with having a few slightly different booming beats going every once in a while.

It’s not all party all night long and there are some nice mid to low tempo songs (such as Glory, Change and Get My Way) to break things up without killing the momentum built up by the other songs. This album is very nicely paced, a rarity these days. I think the best songs are the up tempo ones like the title track, Ev’rybody Alright! and the previously released single Breakout.

Overall a very good album. Definitely give it a spin.
