Review

EXILE THE SECOND’s first single of 2017 is SUPER FLY. A funky dance track that deviates from the harder-edged (and slightly over-produced) EDM of their past material.

SUPER FLY sounds much more organic in comparison and doesn’t hammer you over the head with a bunch of electronic noises. Instead, you get a simpler (yet catchy) club groove accented by strategically placed horn hits. It is in the same area as the throwback tracks that Bruno Mars has been a part of, such as Uptown Funk or 24K Magic.

The b-side of this single is a cover of Earth, Wind & Fire’s September. The main melodic elements are very much intact, combined with the EXILE sound, to make for a respectable rendition of the song. And yes, the entire thing is in English.

If you have not felt the pounding EDM of EXILE THE SECOND’s previous releases, SUPER FLY might get you into them. It is much closer to the Pop/R&B hybrid EXILE has excelled at for years. If not, at the very least, you get a decent cover of a classic Earth, Wind & Fire song as a consolation prize.
