This one took a bit longer to put together because in addition to doing additional hours at work I was also trying out a new recording method. What I used to do is record the output from my mixer to a CD-RW & then extract the file(s) from the CD into an audio editor. (such as SoundForge or Cool Edit)
I tried recording directly on to the hard disk this time around. Not only to cut out the extra work of extracting files from a CD, but to also get a cleaner sounding source file. I had to buy an external sound card for my laptop that had RCA connections. Simple purchase. After connecting my mixer to the soundcard I recorded this set. I thought everything was gravy until I listened to the playback. There were a couple of unexpected skips & pops in some of the tracks. So I had to go back & re-record sections of a songs & re-edit the mix. Somewhet time consuming.
I’m thinking of buying the iKEY for my next recording. It bypasses another problem I had when recording this mix. Finding software that wasn’t a CPU whore. I believe the skips were because I was running SSL & Audacity at the same time. Not exactly the best idea. Audacity was unable to keep up with the audio output.
