Review

JAY’ED is a R&B singer-songwriter and Musication is his 3rd album. He is most well known for his collaboration with JUJU on the song Ashita ga Kuru Nara, which was used as the theme song for the movie April Bride. Those familiar with Japanese urban music will also recognize his name as he has collaborated with many other artists within the genre such as Sphere of Influence, Doberman Inc, Dabo and DJ Kaori.

When he’s alone his sound fits within what you would expect from artists such as Ne-Yo or (Born To Do It era) Craig David. Depending on what your preferred flavor of R&B is that could be a good or bad thing. Songs like Everybody, Can’t Let Go, This Summer Time (Remix) and You’re The Only One are great examples of this comparison.

The dude has one smooth voice and he doesn’t go overboard on the vocal gymnastics like many within the R&B genre tend to do. Zutto Issho, Saigo no Yasashii and Luv Is… are the tracks that best show off his vocal talent. It’s nice to know there are some artists who prefer to just sing instead of show off their range or do endless crap that takes away from the song itself.

Having only heard his duet with DJ Kaori before listening to this album I wasn’t sure what to expect. I’m rather pleased with what I heard and recommend all you R&B heads out there to give this a shot.
