k-os – YES! Remixes

Album: YES (2009)

Indaba Music held a contest late last year inviting producers to remix all 11 tracks from k-os’ album YES!  The prizes for winning each individual competition were $1000 and inclusion on the companion remix album that would be packaged with the studio version.

I jumped on this right away because I really dig k-os’ sound.  It’s the kind of no holds barred  Hip-Hop that stands out in a watered down, over commercialized market.  To say remixing his brand of Hip-Hop was a challenge is an understatement.  But where’s the fun if there isn’t a little bit of difficulty involved in the creative process?

I was unable to remix all 11 tracks and ended up working on just 6.  But that was defnitely more than I expected to complete.  Did I win any of the contests I entered? Nope.  Did I come close?  I’m not really sure, but at least I submitted something worth listening to.

Anyway, the following mixes fall within various genres, I didn’t stick to House like I normally do.  I kind of changed things up to see what I was capable of.  Any constructive comments welcomed.
