Review

Must be now is the 13th single released by NMB48. It features a smaller number of senbatsu members than the average NMB48 single with 9 making up the group for the a-side.

Upon hearing this song one can describe it as NMB48 making an attempt at K-Pop. Whether this is a “good” clone of K-Pop is going to be rather subjective and it will depend on your exposure to that particular genre of music.

If you are a long time follower the sound of this song might be a little dated for your tastes and you may have hoped NMB48’s producers would have at least borrowed from a more current version of K-Pop.

For those who are casual listeners than you may consider this to be a refreshing change to NMB48’s usual sonic landscape regardless of where the inspiration for the music may have possibly come from.

The b-sides fall more in line with what one would expect from a NMB48 song for the most part. 2 of them in particular don’t leave a lasting impact or are very complimentary to the a-side and are kind of just there for consumption. The ones that stand out are Kuufuku de Renai wo Suruna and Orera to wa found on the Type C and Theater editions respectively. Both manage to keep the same type of momentum generated by the a-side going when played consecutively.

In the end Must be now is a fairly enjoyable dance song that is pleasing enough to stand up to repeated listens. It’s probably the other tracks in this single package that will ultimately determine which version(s) of the single you will buy. Unless you’re some sort of NMB48 super fan and you probably will ignore that advice and just buy all the versions just because.
