Songs

Big K.R.I.T. – Good 2getha

I’ve been a fan of K.R.I.T. for awhile now, and while his latest mixtape, King Remembered In Time wasn’t at the same quality of his previous mixtapes, Good 2getha with Ashton Jones I played on repeat for awhile. It’s just a feel good love song, and I think the two of them have a good chemistry on this song.

Action Bronson – Strictly 4 My Jeeps

I’ve known about Bronson for a year or so before 2013. It took this song for me to recognize game. He rides on this Harry Fraud joint so effortlessly. If future music they do with each other, lets hope that it’s at this level. Better slow down, baby.

Kendrick Lamar – Bitch, Don’t Kill My Vibe feat. Jay-Z (Remix)

It’s Kendrick revisiting a song from last year’s Good Kid, m.A.A.d city, with the Jigga Man. Love the gesture.

J. Cole – Let Nas Down/Nas – Made Nas Proud

Damn. My moment in 2013, and it’s not even close. Cole opens up about how one song disappointing Nas, and talks about what he went though after hearing about it. After the song was released, Nas comes back and gives Cole a co-sign and told him that he’s doing great in hip-hop. I’m getting emotional just writing about it.

Albums

Dumbfoundead – Old Boy Jon

My thoughts in the review remain the same. My favorite album of his to date.

Pusha T – My Name Is My Name

I like when people try to experiment in their music. But, there is something to be said about staying in your lane. Pusha stays in his lane, and damn near kills everybody. Top to bottom, nothing but cocaine rap. But he explores different aspects of cocaine than just selling and making money. Everything on this albums works, and it’s my favorite album of the year.

J. Cole – Born Sinner.

I feel the same way as I did when I wrote the review. He’s gonna put it together, album wise. Born Sinner is one of the last steps for him to take to make it.

Action Bronson – SAAAB Stories

He also put out Blue Chips 2, which in it’s own right is good. I personally enjoy SAAAB Stories, the EP he did with Harry Fraud. It has the aforementioned Strictly 4 My Jeeps, but The Rockers with Wiz Khalifa and Seven Series Triples with Prodigy and Raekwon are hot as well. Again, would love more work with Action and Harry.

Ghostface Killah – 12 Reasons to Die

It’s what Ghost does best, storytelling. Although the story told in the album is a bit thin, the Adrian Younge production on the album is one of the best production works in hip-hop in 2013. It’s apparent that Ghost loves the story here, and it feels as though Younge also revels in the kind of story they told together. The music matches the name of Ghostface Killah. In the same way I want Bronson and Fraud to keep working, I hope Ghost and Adrian link up again in 2014.
