Welcome to a new weekly article on Selective Hearing recapping of some of the more interesting news items that have hit the ‘net from the various sources that I use for my talk segments on the Selective Hearing podcast. Those sources being:
This is similar to the Idol Digest on Okay! Musume Time so if you like that series of articles you’ll dig this. Also, if you don’t listen to the podcast then this should give you an idea of some of what is covered on the program every week. (Minus a lot of the ranting after.)
Let’s get started shall we?
Mano Erina Graduating from Hello! Project
It was announced at Hello! Project’s 15th Anniversary live that Mano Erina will graduate in February of 2013. Her final concerts will be Hello! Project’s New Year’s show and her February 23rd solo concert at Nakano Sun Plaza.
Comments: This news came as rather shocking to many Hello! Project fans. Mano Erina’s departure will leave them with no real soloists (Kikkawa Yuu doesn’t count.) and perhaps this will allow one of of the many underutilized eggs to be promoted to soloist in her stead.
Namie Amuro adds another concert date to her 20th anniversary tour
A December 16th show at Nagoya Dome in Aichi has been added to Namie Amuro’s 5dai Dome Tour 2012 ~20th Anniversary Best~. This was done because tickets to her other shows were sold out on the first day. Tickets for this new date are available to the general public starting August 5th.
Here are the rest of the dates of her Dome Tour.
Saturday, November 24th – Fukuoka Yahoo! JAPAN Dome (Fukuoka)
Saturday, December 1st – Kyocera Dome Osaka (Osaka)
Sunday, December 2nd – Kyocera Dome Osaka (Osaka)
Saturday, December 8th – Sapporo Dome (Hokkaido)
Saturday, December 15th – Nagoya Dome (Aichi)
Thursday, December 20th – Tokyo Dome (Tokyo)
Friday, December 21st – Tokyo Dome (Tokyo)
Comments: If I was not committed to AKB48′s Tokyo Dome shows I would have planned this as a Christmas present for myself. It seems that tickets are going to be hard to get if you’re planning to see this latest addition to Amuro’s 20th anniversary concerts.
Aki-P establishing an AKB48 study abroad program
Akimoto Yasushi announced via his Google+ account that a study abroad program has been set up for AKB48 and its related Japanese sister groups. He has made a call out to interested members to apply for this newly crated program.
Those who are accepted into the program will have the opportunity to join one of the overseas sister groups such as JKT48 (Indonesia), SNH48 (Shangai) and TPE48. (Taiwan) The study period is ranges from 6 months to 1 year.
Comments: Is this a way of Aki-P to shuffle his groups under the guise of a study abroad program? I guess we’ll find out once members start moving around.
Avex auditioning for Yankee idol group
AVEX is taking applications from female juvenile delinquents for the “Yankee Idol Audition“. The purpose of this audition is to create a “Tough Idol” group to be the opposite of the typical “Cute Idol” groups. Those who pass the audition will debut on the newly formed label Bari Bari records.
Comments: Um… Not sure what to think of this one. But hey, if a bunch of AV actresses can have a semi-successful idol group then a group of angry Yankees is not out of the realm of possibility.
VERBAL has joined Twitter
Comments: Whether he will be posting epic rants about the state of modern J-Pop is unknown but if you’re a fan of his add him to your list of celebs to follow.
Hello! Project creates two new units
Hello! Project has announced two new units Peaberry (Wada Ayaka & Sayashi Riho) and DIY. (Natsuyaki Miyabi, Chinami Tokunaga, Yajima Maimi, Nakajima Saki and Iikubo Haruna) These units were created from the SATOYAMA movement project.
This project aims to introduce people to a lifestyle that balances life and nature. Both debuted at Hello! Project’s 15th anniversary concert performing Cabbage Hakusho (Peaberry) and Fore Fore ~Forest For Rest~. Both units are said to continue after the summer concerts are over.
Comments: To me the SATOYAMA Project seems like some sort of super preachy, live off the land type of deal but if it spawns some fresh units it’s all good. Personally I’m more interested in DIY just because it seems like it’s all about the legs in H!P. Some would say Peaberry are the new GAM but you’re all smoking something if you think that.
Morning Musume’s Iikubo Haruna to change image color
Morning Musume 10th generation member Iikubo Haruna will announce her image color change via a Ustream broadcast on July 30th. Her current image color is Chocolate (a.k.a. Brown)
Comments: So this news broke late in the week and it has Hello! Project fans in an emo tizzy. So much that it’s becoming rather ridiculous in scale of debate over what color she should get. Personally I don’t get what the big deal is and why a huge announcement has to be made. And really, I don’t care.
