SKE48’s video for Kataomoi Finally is one that starts off like any other until you get to the part where you see girls kissing. Then all hell breaks loose.
I bet when the lowest common denominator of fans saw the make out session at the beginning of this they were thinking, “Alright! Hot lesbian action! Finally!” while the unzipping of their pants commenced. To be honest I was thinking HLA all the way when I saw that as well, but if you get past the cock tease that is the gratuitous girl on girl action there are many subjects that Kataomoi PV addresses.
From the many (and I mean many) repeated viewings of this video (purely for research and the good of this article mind you) I noticed the following topics in this video.
- Sexual Orientation Confusion
- Breaking & Entering
Now there’s a look that says, “I’m gonna eat you up bitch.”
Some of these are not typical of idol video fare. After all, the tried and true template is to have dance and close-up shots to feed the never ending hunger of the wota. Throw in some appealing (or sometimes questionably designed or ill planned) outfits and you’ve got money in the bank every time. Why make the fans think about what they’re watching when you can just shove as many girls in their faces as possible instead?
For me that equals dullness. I mean there’s only so many times that one can say the same shit about the same stuff they are force fed over & over & over. So perhaps I should be thankful for videos like Kataomoi PV where there’s at least some sort of vague storyline to follow to keep me interested outside of the obvious cute girls & all that.
From what I can gather the basic premise is that the SKE girls are in a school devoid of boys. (Either this is fan service or the beginning of a JAV plot) During what appears to be cleaning duty one of the girls discovers some others getting freaky in the shower room or some sort of far away corner of the school. She runs out shocked while another one of her classmates looks on. Commence the not so subtle hitting on freaked out girl with a whole bunch of other scenes in between to advance the story.
Okay, so that was probably the lamest synopsis of a video ever but that’s only because I want to encourage you to watch the video and figure things out for yourself. People can have a lot of different takes so it’s not for me to tell you how to interpret what happens here.
What I can say is that it’s been a long time since an idol video has piqued my interest this much. Again, not just for all the girl on girl stuff, but also because everything surrounding the main story was engaging and not (too) pandering. I at least felt like I watched something that wasn’t dumbed down to those who are easily amused by cuteness.
Definitely recommended viewing.
