Tachiagaaru

Oh boy new S/Mileage! Well that was my first thought when I heard about this video. Granted I did not like the idea of having an audition for this group, but what’s done is done and I have moved on to trying to enjoy the group in their current temporary formation.

Which lead me to wonder if the new girls would be featured more. After all, they have their own spanky costumes that differentiate them from the 1st generation of the group and there are more of them. A ripe opportunity for UFA to shove them down the throats of fans in order to get everyone on board the 2nd generation love train. In a logical world that is how this video would work.

But we are not in a logical world are we? We’re in UFA’s and their idea of pushing possible 2nd generation members is to either have them dancing in the back or have them obscured from view when the 1st generation fight for camera time. Isn’t that counter productive? Are we not supposed to try to pick a favorite out of this new crop of girls? How can we do that if we can’t see them?

Luckily there is a little bit of screen time for each sub-member so I guess that should be enough for most? Maybe?

With that one huge oversight pointed out the rest of the video isn’t that bad. S/Mileage in space? It’s been done before and this time we have more of a campy 60’s science fiction television show vibe going on. I could go on about how this is just the same H!P template but that’s getting kind of boring and I’m willing to cut S/Mileage a wee bit of slack. Not much, but a wee bit. I am thankful that there are no traces of pig noses & ears anywhere near this video. One LSD trip is enough man.

I did notice that long hair Yuuka is making a comeback. Not that the short hair was a bad look for her, but her longer hair makes her stand out from the other two 1st gen members.

Going back the costumes, there are different ones for each generation. I prefer the 1st gen ones because they look less like JAL flight attendants than the costumes for the potential 2nd gen. Seeing that the hem lines for the sub-members are also longer indicated that you have to earn the right to show your legs in S/Mileage.

Overall this was not the worst S/Mileage video. It was entertaining enough for those who like 1st gen but it failed a lot in giving the sub-members a chance to shine.

Tachiagaaru will be released September 28th.
