Yasashiku Suru Yori Kisu wo Shite is the debut single from NMB48 member Watanabe Miyuki and her reward for winning the 2014 AKB48 Janken tournament.
The first thing many may notice is that the a-side has a distinct 1980’s idol vibe to it. There are no traces of current trends like auto tune or EDM. Nor are there hints of the typical AKS musical template. Nope, this is straight up sugar sweet retro with Watanabe milking the track (excuse the pun) to the fullest extent.
This type of song sounds like it works extremely well for her. Let’s face facts, she isn’t going to belting diva notes that only dogs and wild life with sensitive hearing can detect anytime soon or at all. So taking advantage of her limitations is better than stretching for the impossible.
Yasashiku Suru Yori Kisu wo Shite may not please everyone and Milky fans may prefer that she be given more songs like Waruki. Whether you enjoy this will depend on your personal preference or toleration for 80’s pop.
The b-side Harukaze Pianissimo features the remaining 15 members who made the top 16 in the 2014 Janken tournament. The song is pleasant enough but nothing to really get excited about. It makes for nice background music at most.
