Berryz Koubou – Dakishimete Dakishimete

Dakishimete Dakishimete / Berryz Kobo

Dakishimete Dakishimete is Berryz Koubou’s 19th single & it’s quite different from their last batch of singles.  Gone are the covers of German disco, talking about dancing like a monkey or whatever the hell they were trying to say in MADAYADE.  This time around they get a much more serious sounding song to work with. (much like C-ute got many moons ago)

This is an upbeat, synth driven Euro-dance type track.  The quality of the audio on the YouTube video isn’t the greatest so I can’t fairly judge the song based on that, but I like it.  It’s like a cousin to C-ute’s Tokkaiko Junjou in a way (which was a pretty kick ass track).

So I’ll just focus on the PV.  First off, they’re not wearing any silly outfits and look kind of hot.  (Hot Berryz > Monkey Suits/OL’s.)  Some of them I didn’t recognize & had to take a 2nd look.  I guess it’s about time that this group got something where they looked like an actual serious musical act.

It also looks like some money was spent on this video.  I mean, yeah it still looks like an H!P video, but there were some nice video effects in this one (that didn’t involve singing sheep, thankfully).  So thumbs up to UFA for upping the video budget a little.

Normally I don’t look forward to dance shot versions of PV’s, but this one might be kind of interesting.  Not that I’m going to learn the dance, but it looks like some decent choreography.

Lastly, I just want to comment on the little DJ shots spread throughout the video.  As a DJ myself I kind of have to drink the haterade just a little & say that none of the girls featured in those shots looked very convincing behind the decks.  If I had to pick, I think maybe Momo & Maasa were probably close to convincing.  Just saying.

Anyway, I think this is some good stuff, sounds like a winner to me.
