After taking some time off apart to work on various solo projects Big Bang reunite with their 4th mini album. It has been 3 years since their last group effort so this album has been highly anticipated by many. At only 6 tracks deep there’s little room for error, especially with all the hype surrounding this project. Does it meet the lofty expectations?

That depends on how high you have set the bar. If you’re expecting an epic opus that will make other boy bands cower in fear you’re going to be greatly disappointed. If you just want something that will feed your daily K-Pop fix then perhaps this will suit you.

That’s not saying this is an album you should avoid. Just don’t expect some sort of Herculean effort that will go down in history as mind blowing shit.

With that said the first release of this album (the regular edition) as a whole is great. Take away the intro track and you have 5 songs to work with. Out of those five, four are quality and one sounds rather out of place (What Is Right) compared to the other songs.

Was this worth the ambitious promotion of every song? I don’t think so. I think this could have coasted easily on the merits of Tonight, Somebody To Love and Cafe or no songs at all. (because we all know fans will buy this regardless)

And just for kicks a special edition was released with two additional songs (Love Song & Stupid Liar) along with some of the member’s solo works added on for extra padding.

If you’re a Big Bang fan you already have the solo songs so this is like double dipping for the sake of 2 new songs. They’re consistent with the songs from the regular edition with Love Song being the better based on what I heard.

Even though this was a great EP I think this would have been better if it was a full length album with a few more new songs in addition to the 2 from the special edition. Perhaps that’s just me. Either way this is at least worth giving a quick listen.
