CN Blue is a South Korean group who up until this album have either released EP’s or singles in Korea. First Step is the group’s first official full length Korean album featuring songs from their Japanese releases (sung in Korean) and the lead single Intuition.
For those not familiar with CN Blue they are a four member group who consist of actual musicians. Yes, they all play instruments and are more than the typical dancer/singer styled boy band. Their sound leans heavily on the Pop/Rock side so if that appeals to you then you may want to continue reading.
This album starts out strong with the funky Intuition, a song that reminds many of their break out single I’m A Loner. Some have gone as far as to call Intuition “I’m A Loner Part 2”. A fair assessment but I really don’t see too many similarities between the two other than both having really catchy hooks.
As the album goes on you encounter other strong tracks such as Love Girl, I Don’t Know Why and Just Please. When you get near the end of First Step the quality of songs takes a bit of dip and it does feel that perhaps this maybe has 1 or 2 extra filler tracks taking up space.
Overall, First Step is a solid effort. It probably won’t satisfy everyone but it’s definitely worth giving a quick listen to see if anything catches your fancy.
