Being the new Idol group on the block doesn’t seem like a fun thing, and sometimes it can be a little difficult for new up-and-coming Idols to make a name for themselves, especially when their PV is basically a copy of Guardians 4 PARTY TIME, but I think that i☆Ris are going to be fine.
Color is the debut album of this brand new six member unit, and considering they’re signed under Avex, I’m actually not surprised that they have been giving a pretty damn good song as their debut. Color is actually quite a strong sound, in my opinion, and not just with the instrumentals; the girls themselves sound fantastic here, and really amazed me with the strength they all have. I was honestly expecting some more squeaking children, but was happy to find that i☆Ris is actually made up of girls who have vocal talent and maturity to their voices. I want to say ‘Finally’ to that, for some reason, because honestly, Idols with mature voices are a little harder to find now, in my opinion…
Actually, Idols with vocal talent at all is a little hard to find, in some cases. Or is that just me?
I’m going off track here… that said, this is a very pleasant song to listen to. I find that it’s quite energetic in its own way, but it doesn’t sound overly generic like most debut songs tend to. It’s great to listen to, and has been a personal favorite of mine for a while now due to the vocals and how well they fit the instrumental. I find the maturity in this somewhat refreshing, and it’s definitely much needed after hearing the shrieks and siren calls of Morning Musume and Momoiro Clover Z for some time now.
The second song, self-titled Iris, is a very pretty song which is quite soothing and reminds me of Christmas. It’s a great song which shows off the maturity of these girls vocals, and it just sounds very sweet and is basically a nice song to listen to if you want something soft and pretty. It isn’t anything special in my opinion, but I like… then again, I like most things that I listen to, because I’m a sucker for pretty things.
I don’t care for it as much as I do Color, but that’s just me. If you appreciate slower songs more than up-beat and happy songs, this one is probably for you. For now, though, it’s getting me in the mood for Christmas, chocolate and pine tree’s. Damnit i☆Ris, it’s only November!
