Mano Erina’s 10th major label single is an up beat bit of pop that finally fits her improved (yet still rather thin) vocals. It’s like someone figured out what kind of music she should be singing over. I mean it’s nice that little discovery was made 3 years after her debut single but hey, better late than never right?
With that said My Days For You is an impressive piece of work for an H!P soloist song. It’s kind of strange to not hear a single trace of “genki” anywhere. Instead we get a serious (for idol pop) sounding song that wouldn’t sound out of place on your local lite radio station with all the other adult contemporary type songs.
That’s not an insult as it shows there is a bit of maturity in Mano Eri’s sound and it’s a nice deviation from her typical fare.
The b-side 10 Carat no Kirameki is another interesting piece of work. I’m not sure if it’s the music or Mano’s vocals, but something is kind of off on this song. Perhaps it’s both. This isn’t exactly anything I would consider listening to more than once or twice but it’s catchy enough to be some nice concert filler.
My Days For You can be thought of Mano Erina’s sound in the distant future. Perhaps she could go in the direction that Mastuura Aya went in her last days with Hello! Project minus the mind numbing boring parts. (Although some would consider Mano’s early works to be the boring part of her career.)
Personally I wouldn’t mind hearing more of these kinds of songs from Mano Erina. She seems capable of handling something more meatier in regards to musical content. Realistically that’s a pipe dream since she’ll probably be back to singing more standardized H!P songs at her next at bat.
Hopefully this is the beginning of a change in musical direction, otherwise consider this a very pleasing anomaly.
