Seventh Code is an action/thriller written and directed by Kiyoshi Kurosawa. It stars Maeda Atsuko as Akiko, a young woman who tracks down a businessman by the name of Matsunaga in the city of Vladivostok despite the fact she has only met him once.
After finding him he abandons her leaving a warning her not to trust strangers in a foreign land. She tracks him down again only to be kidnapped by thugs and dumped in the outskirts of town. And thus begins the story of Seventh Code.
What you get as you watch this film are twists, turns and intrigue. Also lots of running after every blue car in sight. Akiko got mad cardio in this movie. Without giving away any spoilers, she ain’t all she appears to be and it makes for an interesting change of mood in the final third of the movie.
With a running time that clocks in at just over an hour Seventh Code did a feel more than a little rushed. I believe the ending would have made sense if more time for the backstory were allocated. The lack of any true background or motivation for Akiko made for many unanswered questions.
Still, it’s not a bad way to kill some time if you have nothing better to watch or do.
