Selective Hearing’s 2013 Year In Review: Greg

Best albums

D-Unit – Affirmative Chapter 1

This album is one of those weird things where it was released in 2013 but still has some singles from 2012 on it. But whatever, technically it’s a 2013 release so I’ll treat it as so. Anyway, I don’t really listen to a lot of K-Pop these days, but this really got to me simply because it appealed to my R&B/Hip-Hop side in a big way.

Headlined by the singles Luv Me and To My Face, the album also features a remix of a song from their debut album (Sleeping In) which was previously released as a digital single. As a whole this is a great listen for those looking for quality R&B & Hip-Pop. It’s a shame the running time is so short.

Momoiro Clover Z 5th Dimension

Momoiro Clover – 5th Dimension

I reviewed this earlier in the year and what I said still stands. It ain’t no space opera and the singles sure were a great troll job in making people think so. It is however, one of the better idol, if not general J-Pop releases unleashed upon the public this year and only pushes them further up the hierarchy of idol groups looking to break that stranglehold at the top currently held by AKB48.

2020 Experience

Justin Timberlake – The 20/20 Experience

One of the most anticipated releases of the year delivered in a big way for me. When a second part was released a couple of months ago I scooped it up. Hey, I’m not ashamed to admit I liked N’SYNC & following Justin Timberlake’s solo career was a natural extension of that. Actually it was funny that people laughed at me when I bought his first solo album, shows what they know since the dude is almost a guaranteed hit machine now.

Anyway, Justin Timberlake once again teams up with super producer Timbaland to create a soundscape of Urban Pop goodness. Yes, some of the songs may be a little too long and outstay their welcome just a wee bit but it’s completely excusable given the amount of great material to go through and if you know how to use a basic audio editor you can always cut the tracks down to get rid of that extra fluff anyway.
