Cry For Me is TWICE’s third and final digital single release of 2020. The song made its debut at the 2020 Mnet Asian Music Awards and was officially released digitally just before Christmas.
Musically Cry For Me is similar to TWICE’s recent material. This time out there, it’s a callback to ’90s to early 2000s dance-pop.
Cry For Me was a challenging song to remix. First, the original BPM is 145, usually way out of my comfort zone when creating music. There was also finding a concept for the mix that would differentiate it from the original.
I decided to lower the tempo down to 140. Sure it doesn’t sound like it would make a difference, but it helped sort out the types of music to create for this remix.
For the verses, pre-chorus and half of the chorus sections, I went with something I was familiar with in these upper tempos, UK 2-Step. To close out the chorus and finish the song, I transitioned to a 4/4 style of dance music.
The final result embodies the spirit of the original version and accomplishes the mission of putting my stamp on the song as well.
