Review
BANG BANG is the pre-release digital single from IVE’s upcoming second full-length album REVIVE+. Musically, it is a heavy dose of high-energy EDM with a Spaghetti Western twist.
IVE’s upbeat material generally falls into high-gloss euphoric anthems or cool head-nodders with a strong sense of groove. For this outing, IVE take a swing at delivering a banging, speaker-blasting, peak-time club tune. The most immediate comparison is with BLACKPINK’s JUMP, which also falls under the same musical template.
Unlike JUMP, BANG BANG starts off as a slow burn before ramping up the energy. Once it really gets going, it doesn’t take long to get stuck in your head. The fact that the word “bang” is repeated 90 times means that this is a hook-heavy type of track and is not as lyrically dense as previous IVE A-sides. Yet, the core messaging of IVE’s songs remains intact, albeit with a bit more attitude than usual.
Overall, this is an exciting preview of what might come for the remainder of REVIVE+. It may signal a slight shift in IVE’s musical direction, or it may be an anomaly. We’ll have to wait closer to the album’s release date to find out. As a teaser, it does its job of building hype.
