VIVIZ – BOP BOP (Selective Hearing Remix)

VIVIZ Beam of Prism Cover

Release Date: February 9, 2022
Key: D Minor
BPM: 126

BOP BOP is the debut single from VIVIZ, a group consisting of SinB, Eunha and Umji, who were former members of the now-defunct girl group GFRIEND. The original is a funky disco-ish pop number that differentiates this trio from most of the music they were known for as part of their former group.

Because it’s such a solid song, I figured it would be worth trying to put my spin on it. However, I didn’t want to stray too far from what made BOP BOP so appealing, so there are no weird detours into Euro trash style EDM that a lot of the recent remixes of current K-Pop songs seem to receive.

I wanted to stay close enough to the feeling of the original version without having to make a carbon copy of the song sound by sound. I believe I have managed to accomplish that task.

For my remix, I decided to beef up the rhythm section, create a bouncier bassline and use multiple layers of synth sounds to fill in the gaps for the melodic parts. This remix took a little longer than expected to piece together, but I am happy with the final result.
