Japanese four-piece band muque released their new song ‘cheers.’ The band’s first release of 2025, ‘cheers’ is a dance-rock tune with a cool down-tuned, edgy guitar riff. We’ve all wrestled with how to be ourselves, and vocalist/guitarist Asakura’s lyrics express this feeling through poignant words, resulting in a passionate song that represents a new frontier for muque. It’s sure to be a key song in future live performances.
A video showing live footage of the song performed for the first time during an encore on muque’s recent solo tour was also released on YouTube. A stack of old-fashioned CRT TV sets on the stage helps build an exciting live atmosphere, giving muque’s performance an extra edge. It truly is a live music video like no other.
About muque

muque is a four-piece band based in Fukuoka, Japan. Its members are Asakura (guitar and vocals), Lenon (bass), Takashi (programming and drums), and Kenichi (guitar). The band formed in May 2022.
Their music is mainly produced by drummer takachi, who also creates and arranges the tracks, and Asakura, who handles the topline melodies and lyrics.
The group’s appeal comes from takachi’s modern-sounding tracks, influenced by global music from the US and UK and Asian beats, and Asakura’s deep lyrics and melodies that exude a typically Japanese vibe. The music and Asakura’s emotional vocal delivery combine to create a unique world that is all their own.
The band’s name muque is a blend of the French word “musique” and the Japanese word “muku”, which means “purity”. The name reflects the band’s desire to make the music they want to make, regardless of what anyone else thinks.
