Review

KISS OF LIFE is a new four-member girl group from S2 Entertainment. Their membership consists of:

  • Juile (Leader, Main Rapper, Sub-Vocalist)
  • Natty (Main Dancer, Lead Rapper, Sub-Vocalist)
  • Belle (Main Vocalist)
  • Haneul (Lead Vocalist, Maknae)

The one person most K-pop fans should recognize in this group immediately is Natty. For those unfamiliar with her, she was a former contestant on the idol survival shows SIXTEEN and Idol School and made her solo debut in 2020.

Belle is another member who has already worked in the K-pop industry as a composer, creating songs for artists such as PURPLE KISS, Miyeon and LE SSERAFIM.

On July 5, 2023, KISS OF LIFE officially debuted with their self-titled EP featuring the title track, Shhh.

Shhh sounds a lot like an Ariana Grande-style Urban Pop song, giving listeners an excellent idea of what to expect from the rest of this EP. If you like the combination of R&B and Hip-Pop, KISS OF LIFE will be something you want to invest some time in.

There’s no filler for the album cuts; all are quality tunes. It’s up to you to decide what works for your listening needs. The one album cut/b-side that stood out most to me was Natty’s solo track Sugarcoat. If you crave 90s R&B, this will be the song you should hit up to get your fix.

The other album cut that got my attention was Haneul’s solo Play Love Games. Using the melody of “Take Me Out To The Ball Game” brings an instant familiarity to those who catch on to it. It’s also more playful than the other songs on the EP, which is also why it’s attention-grabbing.

Overall, KISS OF LIFE is an engaging listen from beginning to end and one of the most consistent debuts I have heard in a long time. This group may be one to watch if their future releases have the same level of quality as this.
