ILLIT is a group formed through the JTBC reality show R U Next? This five-member multinational group debuted on March 25th with the EP Super Real Me featuring the single Magnetic.
The original version of Magnetic is an up-tempo dance track with just enough touches of dreamy, cute, girlish pop to match ILLIT’s imagery.
Upon hearing Magnetic, I was inspired to explore a different facet of the track, steering away from its original sugary, sweet pop. This led me to experiment with various concepts for my unique interpretation of Magnetic.
Things clicked when I got inspiration from the late 80s to early 90s Freestyle dance music. I didn’t do an exact clone of that style of music but instead incorporated some elements of Bass House and Electro Pop to construct the instrumental around the vocals.
The final result sounds significantly different from the original, giving it a distinct flavour.
