Sugar Bomb is a song from ME:I’s debut EP MIRAI and was used as a promotional coupling track when the group filmed content for Korean channels.
The original version of Sugar Bomb falls within the realm of poppy UK Garage. This is unusual for Japanese idol acts since they aren’t historically known for hopping on current musical trends. When I first heard Sugar Bomb, I started brainstorming what direction to take for a remix. After a few more listens, I started sketching a draft in Ableton.
The final result of my work on Sugar Bomb is a dance-pop composition. I intended to put a driving four-to-the-floor beat under the vocal and give the song more of a clubbier edge. However, things changed as I selected the sound patches and finalized the arrangement. So, instead, my interpretation of Sugar Bomb became less about being a peak-time dance floor filler and more like something one would play at the start of a night out to warm up for the festivities ahead.
