Review
Rocket Punch has been an active group this year. Their current discography for 2022 has seen them release two singles, one EP and one full-length album.
Their most recent Korean release is their second single, FLASH. This song has no callbacks to an older era of music; instead, you have Rocket Punch back into the modern K-Pop soundscape.
FLASH is similar to what comparable K-Pop girl groups are releasing these days. So if female groups are your thing, this might get lost in the shuffle of same-sounding tracks others have thrown out into the wild.
While FLASH may not have the nostalgic feel of Ring Ring, it’s way better than the Japanese single (Fiore) that came before it so be thankful their Korean a-sides are still decent.
FLASH maintains the tradition of Rocket Punch releases, where the b-sides end up being equal to or better than the title track. However, both have their charms, and what tickles your ears depend on what you are in the mood for.
I recommend listening to both; they are fantastic songs that allow Rocket Punch to shine. However, if forced to choose only one b-side, I go with Beep Beep since it has a more straightforward dance-pop feel than Moon Prism.
It’s a shame that FLASH as a whole is so short, but I believe it accomplishes the intended effect of leaving hungry Rocket Punch Fans wanting more. If they don’t release anything else in Korea in 2022, they are at least closing off their release cycle on a high note.
