Selective Hearing’s Monthly Recap – June 2025

Monthly Recap June Title Card

Content

There’s nothing much to say here. The current lack of content is due to my involvement with several side projects, which I will discuss in more detail next month. For now, I’m posting what I can when I have time.

Events

I stayed home in June. Nothing to report here.

Music

Remixes

Nothing completed for June.

Below are my favourites from June 2025.

Albums

ARTMS Club Icarus Cover

ARTMS – CLUB ICARUS

Club Icarus is the follow-up to ARTMS’ first studio album DALL, and is the group’s first EP. The album’s lead single BURN hinted that ARTMS would release something a bit different. The music on Club Icarus leans heavily towards establishing a mood via the combination of bass-heavy club beats and sensual vocals.

This works to great effect for me since I’m accustomed to this type of music. Everything on Club Icarus has a chill lounge-type vibe. However, I can see those who wanted more of the pop-friendly dance tracks of DALL walking away a bit disappointed with this release.

ILLIT Bomb Cover

ILLIT – BOMB

With all the commotion of returning from Japan and catching up on stuff at work, this release had passed under my radar until I found time to do my scour of Apple Music for new releases. ILLIT has continued to improve with every release, and this latest update is no exception.

Powered by the lead single Billyeoon Goyangi (Do the Dance), BOMB is another short dose of pop goodness from ILLIT.

INI The Origin Cover

INI – THE ORIGIN

Male pop groups aren’t really my thing anymore, but this album from INI caught my attention. Compared to the ladies, the male groups tend to take a more aggressive approach when it comes to the type of songs they perform. The Origin is full of catchy Hip-Pop and Dance tracks that resonate with my musical sensibilities.

It’s surprising to have a dude group in my list of faves of the month, but when the material is good, it’s good.

muque Dope Cover

MUQUE – DOPE

muque is a group I had not heard of until I received a press release promoting their album. When I receive press releases, I listen to the material to see if it falls within the scope of the site and if it’s something I can genuinely recommend to the people as something they should be listening to.

I was pleasantly surprised by this album, as the group appears to be an indie rock band just by their appearance alone. However, their music tells a different story, shifting from pop to dance to full-on, crunchy guitar rock. DOPE is a great EP and certainly sets the table to dig into muque’s back catalog to see what other gems they have in their discography.
