Review

Ado has become one of Japan’s defining vocalists, building her career on fearless musical choices and the unusual decision to remain almost entirely unseen while performing. In some corners of the music media, she has become something of a critical darling for challenging conventional ideas of what Japanese pop music can be. For me, however, her music tends to be hit-or-miss. Still, enough of it connects with me that I make a point of checking out whatever she releases next.

That brings us to her digital single, Love me forever! The song is featured as a vocal track in Nintendo’s Rhythm Heaven: Miracle Stars (also known as Rhythm Heaven Groove). Fans of the series will know that much of Rhythm Heaven’s musical identity comes from Tsunku, the producer many Japanese idol fans recognize as the creator of Morning Musume and the architect behind the Hello! Project sound.

So, the pairing of Ado and Tsunku for Love me forever! feels like a natural fit, bringing together a longtime fan of the series and the creative force behind its music. Tsunku, in turn, crafted a song that complements Ado’s unique voice while retaining Rhythm Heaven’s signature feel and giving her room to showcase her expressive vocals and personality.

With Ado and Tsunku joining forces, expectations were understandably high. But does Love me forever! live up to the hype?

Upon first listen, the song has all the hallmarks of a Tsunku composition, blending his signature style with touches of world music. His knack for writing instantly memorable melodies is on full display, giving the song an infectious quality that lingers long after it ends. Add Ado’s vocals on top, and she sounds perfectly in sync with the high-tempo, quirky instrumental.

After repeated listens, Love me forever! reveals a tightly constructed, rhythm-driven arrangement that never lets up, constantly pushing forward in a way that feels perfectly suited to a rhythm game. Ado’s expressive vocal delivery complements that momentum, adding personality and energy without overshadowing the song’s playful charm. The result is a collaboration that feels true to both Tsunku’s songwriting style and Ado’s strengths as a vocalist.

As of this writing, I haven’t reached the point in Rhythm Heaven Groove where this song appears, but based on the song alone, I have a feeling it’s going to be one of the more demanding rhythm stages in the game.

Taking its association with the video game out of the equation, Love me forever! is the kind of Ado song that really connects with me. It evokes a sense of nostalgia by drawing on many of the qualities that defined the classic Hello! Project sound. Pair that with a modern vocalist who brings her own distinctive style and personality, and the result is a collaboration that feels both familiar and refreshingly new.

As a one-off single, this is one of Ado’s more distinctive releases of 2026. By combining Tsunku’s unmistakable songwriting with Ado’s expressive vocal style, Love me forever! succeeds both as a Rhythm Heaven track and as a compelling addition to her 2026 output. Does it live up to the hype? I think it does.
