BoA returns to the K-pop world three years after her last Korean album release Kiss My Lips. Given how long BoA has been around it is somewhat astounding that One Shot, Two Shot is her first Korean mini-album. Yet, here it is.

This mini-album was preceded by the singles CAMO and Nega Dola which gave fans a small taste of what to expect here. And that is playful R&B and Dance Pop. The lead song (and title track) also happens to re-enforce that fact quite nicely.

The remaining songs on One Shot, Two Shot tend to cover the spectrum of modern mainstream pop music. The most sonically interesting is Your Song (feat. Junflo) which takes BoA into edgier Hip-Hop infused territory not normally associated with her type of pop tunes.

If that is not your cup of tea then give the other collaboration track on this album Always, All Ways (feat. Chancellor) a quick spin. It is a good track to go to if you are in the mood for a smooth mid-tempo R&B jam.

With an artist such as BoA who has 18 years of experience under her belt there is always the fear that someone with that much tenure will just phone it in knowing that their fans will buy in out of loyalty. That is not the case here as BoA shows she is easily able to adapt to current musical trends while still maintaining the core of what makes her music so appealing.

One Shot, Two Shot is an EP that goes by very quickly. However, that short listening experience is an incredibly enjoyable one.
