Selective Hearing’s Monthly Recap – May 2026

Introduction

The business of April continued into May with many new releases to sift through and articles to finish. Thankfully, I found time to contribute a bit more by adding some original content outside our regular features.

Much of my time in May has been spent making background moves to secure exclusives for the site and increase our media presence. I won’t go into the details, but there is a lot of back-and-forth and figuring out time zone differences to make some stuff happen. Sometimes it results in good things, and other times I walk away with some lessons learned for next time.

The first thing I had to finish in May was my EVERGLOW concert review. The TLDR is I finally got to see EVERGLOW, but some of the behaviour of the people around me during the show showed the less-than-desirable facets of K-pop fans when they get unleashed into the wild. It wasn’t a night-destroying type of thing, just a bit distracting.

BEFIRST BEFIRST ALL DAY Promo

Next up was an interview I had been coordinating for about a month before it was published. Like I said in the introduction, a lot of back-and-forth was going on, and my e-mail was definitely getting some overtime in to get this finalized. The final result is an interview with one of the more popular male groups in Japan at the moment, BE:FIRST, where they talked about their 5th anniversary and their new single, among other topics.

Lastly, I got a couple of music reviews off my never-ending list. First up was a look at Nogizaka46’s my respect album, followed by LE SSERAFIM’s PUREFLOW Pt. 1 EP.

Events

I didn’t attend any concerts in May primarily because of funding, but also because many of the shows I wanted to attend are in a hostile nation. So instead, I stayed at home and tried to use my powers of prediction to get the top spot in our WWE predictions for the year.

May had Backlash and Clash in Italy for us to test our powers of prognostication. Both of which were disappointments in one way or another when it came to some match times, quality, or just me not getting the winner right.

Noche de Los Grandes 2026

Honestly, the best wrestling match in general I have seen recently, regardless of company, was between a German guy pretending to be an American pretending to be a Mexican luchador vs. an American guy also pretending to be a luchador.

If you have not seen OG El Grande Americano vs. El Grande Americano in AAA at Noche de Los Grandes, go out of your way to watch it. It might be a bit overbooked for some people’s tastes, but there’s no doubt the drama and the action delivered to blow off one of the hottest storylines in pro wrestling over the past couple of months.

Music

Remixes

I found some time in May to get back into remixing. I chose Hearts2Hearts RUDE! as a project. Since official remixes had already been released, I tried not to repeat what the remixers had done to the song. It took some time to figure out what I could bring to the table, but I believe I managed to put my own twist on the song without overlapping with what the official remixes had already covered musically.

Conclusion

There was a lot of new music to listen to in May, and I had some difficulties keeping up. I did miss getting a House mix done because of that. I’m hoping to get that made up in June with a slightly longer mix. June is not looking any better for a barrage of new releases, so I think I’m gonna be busy playing catch-up again. But having something to do is better than having nothing to do.
