Review

After making their Japanese debut at the end of 2022, STAYC has returned to Korea with their fourth single, Teddy Bear.

Teddy Bear is an uptempo slice of pop with a musical style similar to previous songs like ASAP, Stereotype and their Japanese song Poppy. As fun as the song is, this may feel like a bit of a regression for some listeners after hearing what the group can do with songs like Beautiful Monster and RUN2U.

Much of what will make you like or dislike Teddy Bear may depend on the type of music you believe STAYC should be doing as their career progresses. Should they continue with the safer ear candy or stretch their wings further past that? Regardless, Teddy Bear is still a pretty good song, so it’s worth checking out at least once.

The b-side on this single (and the better song, in my opinion) is the Korean version of their Japanese debut, Poppy. There are no changes to the song other than what language it’s performed in. And this doesn’t sound messed up, unlike many songs translated from one language to another. So bonus points for that.
