Review

In their 11th Princess themed release – and the last to feature Maika – Houkago Princess take on the mesmerising image of Cleopatra, a Desert Queen whose reign is remembered 3,000 years on. With a desire to create a lively and heated experience for the fans, Houkago Princess are ready to deliver a spirited and passionate Summer release that will be remembered by all.

First in line for the songs, Shakunetsu no Mystery Eye is a strong, memorable track that is clearly the more dominant of the two. With a catchy, dance-heavy sound that is seldom heard in Houkago Princess songs, this is probably the track that most listeners will lean towards upon hearing it. With a heated, passion-fuelled instrumental and incredible vocals courtesy of Maika and Sekine Sasara, Shakunetsu no Mystery Eye is perfect to dance along and chant to when the need arises.

And then we have Zesse Cleopatra, the undeniable graduation song. Composed by veteran HouPri song creator, Ishitani Hikari, Zesse Cleopatra delivers a wonderful dose of nostalgia with its cute, sparkling sound that feels reminiscent of the groups original indies run. Catchy and energetic, there is no denying that this track will have its fair share of fans, but it is also undeniable that, when put against the sheer strength of Shakunetsu no Mystery Eye, this is the weaker track.

Regardless of which song is your favourite though, both are wonderful in their own right and feature some equally catchy lyrics and memorable instrumentals. With the inclusion of some fantastic vocals, Shakunetsu no Mystery Eye / Zesse Cleopatra is yet another fantastic release from Houkago Princess, and another great addition to their Princess series.
