Review

Influencer is Nogizaka46’s 17th single release featuring another double center pairing. This time it is the duo of Shiraishi Mai and Nishino Nanase.

On their 17th single Nogizaka46 has moved away from their regular idol music and has offered something with a little more international flavour. In this case, something with a bit of Latin flair. While the idea of Nogizaka46 performing over that type of music may sound odd on paper, in execution, it is a surprisingly energizing departure from what they normally release.

While it differs from what one may expect from this group, it is not so far off that they start to veer into unknown parts. The b-sides are a different story. Those tend to be the ones that fit the typical Nogizaka46 song mould more closely. The only exception is the song on Type A. (Igai BREAK)

It sounds a lot like a pre-EDM Tokyo Girls’ Style track. Sadly it doesn’t go into those deep and funky bass lines that early TGS songs were known for, but you can consider this much like the a-side. It is another interruption in the regular Nogizaka46 soundscape.

The only other b-side to note is Sanbanme no Kaze, which aligns with songs such as the SakamichiAKB group collaboration or Keykizaka’s latest single Fukyouwaon. So if you like those songs, you should enjoy this one as well.

Overall the Influencer single package is a fairly solid release. The a-side does give off a summer song type of feel, so it does feel a bit premature, given that Spring just started. If you can ignore that, then you should, at minimum, pick up Types A and D.

Or if you have an iTunes/Apple Music account, pick up the special edition and get everything in one shot.
