Review

Sorezore no Isu is Nogizaka46’s second studio album, and it features the singles and b-sides starting from Inochi wa Utsukushii up to the final song for Fukagawa Mai, Harujion ga Saku Koro.

Much like their first album (and many other idol albums), you have probably heard the majority of the material present here. Thankfully, a few new songs spread among the different versions of Sorezore no Isu, so it’s not like this is just a rehash of all you know. Of course, you must buy all the CDs if you are the compulsive type who must have a complete Nogizaka46 song collection.

Of the album cuts, Taiyou ni Kudokarete, Yokubou no Reincarnation, and Teiaion no Kiss earn the most attention. The last track in that list is Ikuta Erika’s solo song, reminiscent of when she covered GLAY on Nogizakatte Doko. That means it’s a not very Nogizaka46-sounding song, but it certainly stands out.

As for the b-sides? Popipappapa, Tachinaorichu and Wakaregiwa, and Motto Suki ni Naru are the ones to take note of. Type D contains some older ones, such as House!, Sonna Baka na and Shakiism, which were not present on Nogizaka46’s first album but made the cut for this one.

After listening to the album in its entirety, it is evident that there is a maturation of Nogizaka46. After going through some typical idol group growing pains, such as graduation and a scandal, they have emerged as a separate entity from their 48 family cousins. It was once inconceivable that Nogizaka46 could be a true rival to the 48 empire. That’s probably not so far-fetched now.
