IS THIS LOVE is the opening track from XG’s 2024 album AWE. It was re-released as a standalone single in March 2025 as part of Shiseido’s Anessa global campaign, for which XG is an ambassador.
It’s been a while since I finished a remix, and this one has been in my queue for quite a while. The original version of XG’s IS THIS LOVE is a minimalistic throwback to early 2000s American R&B. Much like many of XG’s songs, it has a vibe.
I had a clear idea of what I wanted to do with this song, and that was to drop the vocal into an up-tempo club track. For my remix, we have a punchy 4/4 House beat with piano stabs and filtered pads to add motion to the instrumentation.
The final result is a version of IS THIS LOVE that has a less introspective mood and is more uplifting and energetic.
Typically, I would sync my remix to the original’s music video. However, that was not possible this time because I used vocals from both the original album version and the Piano Version. So the parts from the latter don’t sync at all with the music video. So it’s audio only this time.
