Review
EVERGLOW’s second release of 2020 arrives late in the year in the form of an EP called -77.82X-78.29. The lead single from this EP is LA DI DA, a throwback to 80’s synth-pop with a few modern twists. The song follows the established pattern of EVERGLOW a-sides showing the group off as strong, powerful and badass. The lyrics such as those in the hook and the imagery in the music video reinforce that fact.
The follow-up song UNTOUCHABLE also has the same retro feeling as LA DI DA but is less aggressive in showing its influences. Unlike the a-side, this song sets the tone for the rest of the EP. Of the two remaining tracks, GxxD BOY is the one that garners the most attention. It is a bass-heavy Hip-Pop track that takes some cues from ASMR, or if you want something music-related, then think of the type of the whisper rapping in Wait (The Whisper Song) minus the suggestive content.
When you look at -77.82X-78.29 as a whole it is another consistent and entertaining effort from EVERGLOW. At this point in time they pretty much have their modus operandi set and it’s working for them. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it is certainly the motto they are living by at the moment.
