Review

LE SSERAFIM had a busy 2023. They made their Japanese debut, held their first fan meeting event, released their first studio album, Unforgiven and dropped their first English digital single, Perfect Night. They continue their momentum into 2024 with their third mini-album, EASY.

The album’s self-titled lead track gives a big hint as to what to expect on this album. Breezy, laid-back R&B/Hip-Pop that leans heavily towards a more relaxed listening experience. This is nothing new to LE SSERAFIM as they have briefly dipped their toes into this end of the musical pool before. However, an entire album of such material sets EASY apart from its predecessors.

While the title track is excellent, the album cuts leave a more lasting impression. The first worth mentioning is We got so much, a song that debuted at the start of LE SSERAFIM’s Flame Rises tour in Korea and serves as the group’s love letter to their fans.

Excluding the introduction/overture-like Good Bones, there are two more full songs on this mini-album, Swan Song and Smart. Both are enjoyable and what floats your boat depends on your mood or taste. If you like a chill Hip-Hop groove, then go with Swan Song.

Smart is better for your listening needs if you crave something with more of an Afrobeat style and feel.

Those expecting high-tempo bangers like Fire In The Belly or Eve, Psyche & The Bluebeard’s Wife will likely feel some disappointment with EASY. The album lacks the “oomph” for the people who thrive on the group’s more energetic songs, and it may be a tad boring to sit through for those of that mindset.

But if you like hearing LE SSERAFIM take the energy level down and try a few new things, EASY should be a satisfying experience.
