Cupid is the title track from FIFTY FIFTY’s first single, The Beginning: Cupid. The original version has a catchy pop feel accompanied by sweet vocals about yearning for love.
For my remixes, I followed the template I used for NewJeans’ Ditto, where I made one remix closer to the pop roots of the original and the second something completely different.
I first completed the 2-Step remix, which ramps the song’s tempo (but not to the ridiculous chipmunk levels like on social media) to fit its genre. The overall sound is reminiscent of the late 90s and early 2000s UK Garage vibe, with a few pop elements thrown in to keep some familiarity with the original.
The second remix I completed is much closer to the dance-pop flavour of the original. For this remix, I dropped the vocal on a simple 4/4 instrumental and layered in soft acoustic and electric pianos, pads and strings to help push the forlorn feeling expressed in the lyrics. This also has a bit of a tempo boost, but only by a few BPM.
